The steep rise in petrol prices during recent times is one of many concerns that motorists are faced with, especially when coupled with the increase of car insurance premiums, rising energy prices and the cost of living in general.
But however unlikely it may initially seem, the additional cost of filling your fuel tank could eventually have a positive effect on the way that car insurance companies deal with their policy holders.
In the most basic sense, sooner or later car insurers will inevitably begin to reward motorists for taking greater of with their vehicles by offering lower premiums to those drive in a more ecologically conscious manner. Not only could these measures make motorists safer and better drivers, they would also reduce the number of accident claims and servicing costs in general.
At the present time, the only way of monitoring a driver's
performance is by installing a special box which records
the amount of mileage that a motorist covers alongside the
time of day that they are out on the roads. By using this
information, insurers could offer considerably cheaper car
insurance quotes to those who choose to stick within
agreed mileage limits and who only use their vehicles between
the hours of 7am and 11pm. The reason for the latter being
that most accidents tend to happen at night when visibility
is poor and people tend to drive faster.
Furthermore, the data provided to the insurer could also include information about a motorist going too fast, accelerating and breaking to quickly or even over-revving their engines which often leads to excessive wear and tear alongside greater fuel consumption.
However, although this a good idea on the whole and one which could save money for both car insurance companies and motorists alike, for the time being it is not something which is in widespread use and it may only be available in the distant future as workable solution to a spiralling problem.
